Stress is a term used to describe the wear and tear the body and mind experience in reaction to everyday pressures and tensions. But it is not knowing how to handle the unrelieved emotional pressure of everyday hassles - rush hour traffic, waiting in line, too many emails - that do the most damage, causing stress to accumulate until you feel like an overloaded electrical circuit - ready to shut down, short circuit or blow.
Stress affects us physically, mentally and emotionally. According to the American Institute of Stress, up to 90% of all health problems are related to stress. Too much stress contributes to and aggravates many health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, depression and sleep disorders.
